Commonly Asked Questions

  • What color is the smoke, blue, white or black ? If it is definitely blue smoke generally this means there is a fault internal of the motor and oil is getting into places it shouldn't and being burnt. Get the customer to to check the oil level. Did they fill it before use ? What oil did they use if they did ? If it is black or grey smoke this is a fuel issue. If so the customer may have the fuel tap in the wrong position which is very very common and the unit will have enough to start but not continue running. Get them to check this as well if it is not blue smoke. If it is blue smoke, it will need to be assessed by a service agent.
  • The safest way is to purchase a fuel syphon hose form any hardware store or auto parts retailer. By trying to tip the fuel out, you may spill flammable fuel onto a hot exhaust and be at the risk of a fire / explosion.
  • Generally this is because they nozzle hasn't been pushed in quite hard enough or far enough. By pulling the brass retainer ring back on the lance tip, push the nozzle in as far as it will go with a good amount of pressure. Whilst holding it in place, then pull the brass retaining ring forward on the lance to lock the nozzle into position. As the black detergent one is plastic, it may not fit as tight as the others as there is no pressure behind it. Also if old and used, check there is no damage to the nozzle shank or any foreign objects stuck to it.
  • If the customer has access to a rain water tank, then flushing the unit after each use with a small amount of rain water will be better than leaving the salty residue from their water in the pump. Also we sell a pump protection / lubrication product for when the unit is not being used. Part number is 9.558-998.0
  • Keep in mind that any damage caused to the unit by using very hard of soft water would not be covered under warranty.
  • If it is new out of the box, it could be that the unit was tipped over in transit. Or that it may have been overfilled. Or it could have even been spilt from the factory when being filled up. Or if the unit has no oil in the sump as yet, was it leaking from the bottle of oil supplied in the box ? If new out of the box i would suggest wiping it down and check the oil levels making sure they are ok, then try using the pump and see if the oil leak returns. If not it is obviously fine to keep using.
  • This could be for a couple of reasons. We need to confirm is this engine oil leaking from a fault in the oil sump, dipstick or motor case ? Or is it oil leaking from the pump transmission ? Two different faults, and In both instances this would need to be assessed by a service centre and do not continue operating the machine until it has been assessed..
  • Follow steps to explain the process on how to start petrol machine - Internal documents only.
  • Tap adaptor- 6.645-538.0, must be ordered through Karcher as it has an imperial thread. Most adapters found locally in retail stores will have a different thread and will not fit.

NO you cannot.

  • Supply water pressure must be greater than 40 PSI, this means only a pressure fed water supply like mains pressure,
  • The water supply temperature must not exceed 122°F/50°C.
  • If using the detergent bottle built into the pressure washer or the suction hose that comes off the pump no dilution is required. The pump will suck a small amount in as the water flows through the pump when the detergent nozzle is in use. Also when using a detergent foam gun accessory on the end of the gun, no dilution is required

Yes there is a variety of accessories including:

  • There is a Honda Australia 3 year warranty on the GX series motor that comes on the G3600, G4000 and also on the Pro HD 7/20 G and the HD 9/25 G. Any motor warranty claims are to be done by a certified Honda Australia service centre as this is a Honda warranty and not a Karcher warranty.
  • If you need to pause in your work, you should not leave the pump running for more than 5 minutes without pulling the gun trigger. By running it for long periods of time without pulling the trigger, you can cause serious damage to the pump.
  • When left idling for too long the thermal overload valve will open- it should close itself again once cool

You can use the G series Generic hoses as extension hoses so the customer has two options:

8.756-998.0 - 10m Rubber

9.558-124.0 - 15m Steel Braided Hose

No - the pressure rating and connections are not compatible

Is there fuel in the machine

Is the fuel turned on

Is the oil full- needs to be at the brim

Is the cord easy to pull- release the trigger- still hard to pull ?

If using the onboard detergent tank or the detergent suction hose the answer is NO. Karcher detergents are designed specifically for Karcher pumps to prevent any issues of clagging up or corroding the pump. If you use the Foam bottle attachment, then you can use any detergent you wish as this is not going through the pump.

Which fitting do they need -

The oil in the pump should last the lifetime of the pump, the engine should be replaced every 20 to 40 hours depending on the model. Refer to engine manual for details

Check for restriction or debris in the filter

Is there sufficient water flow

NO – All units are set at the factory and should not be tampered with.

  • WHAT IS A CHOKE - This is the part of the engine that allows it start when cold. This must be set to the closed/on position when cold starting. This restricts the flow of air into the motor, and only allows fuel to help starting. When the engine is warm, the choke can be in the open/off position for starting.
  • WHAT IS THE THROTTLE - This is what controls the speed of the engine, the same as the accelerator pedal in your car. Higher the revs the more pressure it makes, lower the revs the lower the pressure
  • OIL LEVEL, CHANGES & HOW OFTEN- When new, the oil in the unit MUST be replaced after 5 hours on the Karcher branded motors, and 20 hours on the Honda branded motors. This will mean any impurities in the engine from manufacture, and the motor wear in process can be flushed out. New oil will then mean the unit is well lubricated all the times. Then the oil Must be changed every so many hours or months depending on the model as each are different ( you will need to refer to the specific motor user manual for exact times). Like in your car the oil must be at the right level, too much oil and it can cause damage to the engine, too little and the engine can seize. Making sure the oil is at the correct level on the dipstick is important and should be checked before each use.
  • WHAT IS THE BREATHER CAP - these units need to have a breather cap on the transmission to release any pressure from within the pump when running. They are shipped with just a plug to stop the oil from leaking during transport. Depending on the pump type will determine if the unit needs a breather cap. You need to remove the bung plug and replace with the breather cap before use.
  • This could be anything from and obstruction on the hose, lance or spray nozzles to faulty valves in the pump. Has the customer tried any other nozzles to see if the fault is still there ? Is the water flow from the tap enough for the pump ? Are they using town water or trying to get water from another source ? Was the pump left running for a long period of time without the trigger being pulled then causing damage to the valves ? Has the unit got a foreign object in the water like rust, dirt or anything else that can cause the valves to stick open ?
