Cleaning the Avicii Arena - Kärcher in action for Sweden's culture

As one of the country's most famous sports and music arenas, the Avicii Arena in Stockholm is a central landmark of Swedish culture. It is therefore all the more important to keep it in good condition for a long time to come. For the second time, the Kärcher Sweden team went up to the heights to clean the arena.

The first cleaning in 2016

Back in 2016, Kärcher contributed to the preservation of the historic Avicii Arena in Stockholm as part of its cultural sponsorship. At that time, the arena was cleaned for the Eurovision Song Contest, which took place in the multi-purpose hall that year.

In 2021, the Avicii Arena was cleaned by Kärcher for the second time.

The second cleaning in 2021

Over the five years that the arena was exposed to the emissions caused by traffic, a lot of soot and dirt accumulated so that in the summer of 2021 Kärcher again felt the need to clean the hall in cooperation with the company Klätterservice AB.

Kärcher freed the arena from dirt in an environmentally friendly way.

Cleaning in an environmentally friendly way

The HDS 13/20-4 SX hot water high-pressure cleaner was used to remove various types of dirt - including road surface with oil, exhaust fumes and tyre wear caused by the 80,000 cars passing by every day - in an environmentally friendly way and without using chemicals. In heavily soiled areas, hot water was used under high pressure in combination with Kärcher iSolar 800 brushes.

To prevent the spread of harmful particles such as heavy metals or oil residues contained in the road surface, filters were installed near the wells. Those filters safely capture impurities in the rinse water so that the residues could be properly eliminated afterwards. In addition, the supervisory authority took samples of the purified rinse water to ensure that all harmful particles had been captured.

You can't be afraid of heights for this type of cleaning project.

The project was implemented in collaboration with Klätterservice AB.

Kärcher and Klätterservice AB were able to free the Avicii Arena from dust and dirt in an environmentally friendly way.

About the arena

The Avicii Arena is a multi-purpose hall in the Johanneshov district of the Swedish capital Stockholm and is part of the so-called "Globen City" area. It regularly hosts events such as the Eurovision Song Contest or the World Figure Skating Championships. With a volume of 605,000 cubic metres, the Avicii Arena is the largest spherical building in the world and has a significant impact on Stockholm's cityscape. The structure is mainly made of concrete, steel, aluminium, sheet metal and glass. It is 85.20 metres high and has an external diameter of 110.40 metres.

Named after Avicii

While the hall was formerly known as "Globen", it was renamed "Avicii Arena" on 19 May 2021. It is named after the DJ, remixer and music producer Avicii, who died in 2018. The renaming is intended to draw attention to mental illness among young people. At the same time, the new name is a tribute to one of the greatest Swedish artists of our time.

Events are held regularly in the Avicii Arena.
